Petronilla does not appear in Sir Gerard Braybrooke's History of Parliament biography, even though the biographer examines his relations with the Greys. Her alleged daughter's family name does not appear in Sir Thomas Chaworth's History of Parliament biography either, although we are told that his first wife Nicola did not bring much in the way of money or social status (which would be odd if she were the granddaughter of a baron). The suspicion has to be that the Scropes of Masham made up these two to cover up an embarrassing genealogical gap.
