Hij is getrouwd met Elizabeth Crammer.
Zij zijn getrouwd op 12 maart 1755 te Spingfield, Burlington County, NJ, hij was toen 23 jaar oud.
Kind(eren):
George Cowgill Sr b 6 Sep 1731, NJ, d ???, m 12 Mar 1755, Springfield, Burlington Co., NJ, Elizabeth Crammer, “spinster” (signed by uncle; bondsman Samuel Woodard, witnesses Joseph Hollingshead and Samuel Peart – see p286, New Jersey Marriages, PA Gen Soc). Elizabeth, a Quaker, had transferred membership from Little Egg Harbor MM to Burlington MM on 1 Jan 1755. She was "condemned" for "marrying out of unity" 6 Mar 1758. George was bequeathed “my riding creature” in his grandfather’s (John Briggs) will; he is shown on the tax lists of Evesham Twp, Burlington Co., NJ, for Sep and Aug 1774. He is also shown as the seller in two land transactions in Burlington Co. dated 30 and 31 Mar 1774. In that year, George and family moved to VA, where he purchased 200 acres on Cedar Run, in southern Culpeper Co. near the Madison and Orange county lines, on 2 May 1774 (Culpeper Co. Deed Book G:214-218). He sold this parcel 15 Mar 1784, and bought (same date) another 200 acre parcel, apparently nearby, from the purchaser of his original plot (Culpeper Co. Deed Book M:112-115 and 107-109). He and Elizabeth are shown as sellers of this 2nd parcel on 21 Mar 1786 (Culpeper Co. Deed Book N:190-192). George is shown on tax lists for Culpeper, Orange, and Madison (formed from Culpeper in 1792) counties through 1800, but is not on the 1801 list. George and Elizabeth are listed in 1807 Warren Co., OH, marriage records as agreeing to the marriage of their granddaughter Elizabeth Cowgill (who is she?) to Thomas Hudgell. Note: Culpeper Co. marriages list the marriage of a Susannah Cowgill to George Peyton, 15 Apr 1792, by John Coons or Koonts, MG (Baptist). If a Cowgill, Susannah would be another child of George’s. She is more likely a Coghill – there were several Coghill families near George in Culpeper and Madison counties. There is no mention of Susannah in Mary Cowgill’s will.
Note: The discovery of Mary Cowgill’s will (see below) by Maryln Wolever resulted in a major revision to this line from what is printed in “Cowgill History”. What follows is a change from the original text – the George (and descendents) formerly listed here as descendents of George Sr are now listed in an appendix as a “stray”.
Children: known are – Daniel, Jacob, Ralph, Beulah, John, George, Isaac, Mary, Hannah, Sarah (order uncertain)
