Hello Arnold. Thank you for your contact. My connection to the Hammerich family is through my great great grandparents Carl Johan Heinrich and Katerina Hammerich (Born Stellie) (1844) who sailed to NZ aboard the "Skiold" and settled in the Upper Moutere, Nelson area. Their daughter Amelia Hammerich married my great grandfather, David Waters Gunn a young Scotsman who arrived in NZ from Scotland in 1963, following three older brothers to NZ. David was only 17 and went to the Otago Goldfields before heading to Nelson to meet and marry Amelia. They had six children one of whom was my grandmother Annie Barbara Gunn. Amelia died young - early 30s and David married again to Annie Newman and they had three more children. Annioe died and David married again - no issue. My mother Verna Gunn married my father, David Alfed Lambert descended from my great great grand parents, Alfred and Sarah Lmasbert, both of whom came from Ardleigh Essex - 1853. My wife and I went to Dassow, Mecklenburg in June of this year to Dassow where Carl and Katerina Hammerich came from.We were not disappointed. I have been able to gain more information re Carl and Katerina. I know that Carl's brother also came to NZ and settled in the Blenheim Marlborough area. There is a road named for the Hammeirchs in that part of New Zealand. Best wishes, Doug. L (XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)
As a 4th generation kiwi and like so many of us, I am from several different ethnic nationalities. My Lambert family is from Ardleigh, Essex, England in 1853 aboard the ship "Cornwall, England." Alfred and Sarah Lambert settled and raised their family in the Poranagahau area, Hawkes Bay. My Danish paternal line arrived around 1873 Heming Jensen (Hemmingsen) and his wife and five children. Their daughter Anna Sophia Hemmingsen married my Hungarian great- grandfather Baron Adolf Ludovit Breuer who was travelling on the same ship, the "Winchester." They settled in the Makaretu, Waipawa, Waipukurau, Dannevirke areas. My mother's family were early German settlers from Dassow, Mecklenburg and they settled in the Upper Moutere, Nelson area - Carl Johan Heinrich Hammerich and his wife Katerina Hammerich (born Stellie). Carl and Katerina came to NZ under the Count Ranzau Scheme - the second shipload, travelling aboard the "Skiold," 1844. One of their daughter's Amelia, married my Scottish great grandfather from Braemore Caithness, Scotland. He came to NZ aboard the "Helenslee" in 1863 and went onto the Otago goldfields aged 17 before heading to Nelson to marry Amelia Hammerich - they had six children and then marrying Annie Newman three children and lastly Ellen Holdaway, no issue. I am very happy to be a kiwi, love my country and I am especially and thankful to my ancestors who had the guts and courage to come a new and great country to build a new life and create their respective families.
