Notities over Lura M McAllister

I lived beside Gram and Pap Applegarth my entire youth. Gram was my angel, my rock, and my best friend. Although I'm sure she didn't like the music of the late 50's and early 60's, she kept track of the number one songs of the day so we would have something to talk about. She was sick with diabetes as long as I can remmeber and Mom would have to give her a shot each day. Before the school bus came every day I would walk up to Gram's and she'd always have something for me to eat, evern if it was only sugarbread and coffee.
She could make rootbeer from sassafras roots and I knew where to dig em up. Gram was a tall woman and I have seen her kick up her leg and touch the top of the door jam with her foot.
Her and mom would can vegetables, fruit and whatever else they could get every fall.
When Gram was in her final days at the hospital, I would stop daily whenever possible and feed her lunch or dinner or both. I was in high school then and the hospital was only about a mile from school. The only day I did not go, because her son Russ had come from Connecticut to see her, she passed away. I know she did it so I wouldn't see her die. Now I'm crying again...I loved this woman so much.
