Notities over Henry Percy

Henry Percy, 2nd Earl of Northumberland was born circa 1532. He was the son of Sir Thomas Percy and Eleanor Harbottle. He married Katherine Neville, daughter of John Neville, 4th Lord Latymer and Lady Lucy Somerset, before 25 January 1561/62. He died on 21 June 1585, found dead in bed, shot through the heart with three bullets fired - the subsequent verdict was suicide.
     He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Morpeth in 1554. He was appointed Knight in 1557. He was commissioner to treat with the Scottish Lords of the Congregation in 1559. He gained the rank of Captain General of the Light Horse in 1560, in an attack on the French at Leith. He was commissioner to negotiate with the French in 1560. He held the office of Captain of Tynemouth and Norham Castles between February 1560/61 and 1571. He held the office of Sheriff of Northumberland in 1565. He was commissioner to put down piracy in Northumberland in 1565. He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Northumberland in 1571. Between 1571 and 1573 he was confined to the Tower of London on suspicion of conspiring on behalf of Mary, Queen of Scots. He succeeded as the 2nd Earl of Northumberland [E., 1557] on 22 August 1572. He succeeded as the 2nd Baron Percy [E., 1557] on 22 August 1572. In 1582 he was again confined to the Tower of London on suspicion of conspiring on behalf of Mary, Queen of Scots after the discovery of the Throckmorton Plot. From January 1583/84 to 1585 he was again confined to the Tower of London on suspicion of conspiring on behalf of Mary, Queen of Scots. The Earl having been committed to the Tower for participating in a supposed plot in favour of Mary, Queen of Scots, was found dead in his bed there, slain by three bullets from a pistol.
