George H. Ewing, 76, former city police detective, died yesterday in a Charleston hospital after a long illness. He resided at 921 Central Av.
He had been a city employee for 20 years, 17 of them as a worker in the county assessor's office.
Mr. Ewing was a lifelong resident of Charleston. He was born Aug. 5, 1877, son of H.D. and Louise Dorsey Ewing.
He was a member of Sixth Street Methodist Church, a past officer of Glendale Lodge No. 78, Knights of Pythias, and was a member of Knights of Khorassen No. 29.
Surviving are the widow, Donna Ann Ewing; three daughter, Mrs. Leon C. Ronce of Orlando, Fla., Mrs.thel Church of Nitro, and Mrs. Ernest Wood of Charleston; four sons, Lannis A., Leonard A., Lawrence W. and Letcher I., all of Charleston; 14 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The body is at Bartlett mortuary.
