Johan Gelmers wordt in de Grondschatting van Peize 1630 vermeld met een vol erf en een gezin van 4 kinderen op een plaats die overeen zou kunnen komen met de plaats van het huis dat in 1646 eigendom is van Grietje Gelmers. Het huis is gelegen op de zuidwestelijke hoek van de huidige Hoofdstraat en Kortlandsweg.
Grietje Gelmers zou de weduwe kunnen zijn van Johan Gelmers, in welk geval Gelmers waarschijnlijk niet haar echte naam of patroniem is of een zuster van Johan Gelmers. Gelmer Jansen en zijn broers worden in de Grondschatting Peize 1654 genoemd als opvolgers van Grietjen Gelmers. Gelmer Jansen is dan waarschijnlijk een zoon van Johan Gelmers of Grietje Gelmers of van beide.
Wolter en Gelmer Gelmers te Peize erven in 1713 van hun broer Jan Gelmers vaste goederen te Peize ter waarde van 800 gld. Wolter Dries en Gelmer Gelmers betalen op 5-12-1714 een bedrag van 25 gld. die hun oom Roelef Dries aan de armen heeft beloofd.
