Jan Thomas (Oosterlittens 28-01-1682 -Surhuisterveen 26-07-1744)
boer en doopsgez. (liefde) prediker, beroepen 1714 te Heerenveen -
Knijpe. Had hier door zijn vrijzinnigheid ook vele gereformeerde kerkgangers. Reeds een 1716 gedrukte preek had de geref. classis van Zevenwolden ergernis gegeven, maar een te Heerenveen uitgegeven catechisatieboekje, ‘Kort Onderwijs voor de Jeugt’(1719), waarin ‘Sociaanse dwalingen’ zouden voorkomen, was aanleiding tot maatregelen. Na verhoor door de classis en de grietman van Schoterland werd hij geschorst, wat de Staten bekrachtigden. In 1720 schijnt de schorsing te zijn opgeheven. Afscheid van de gemeente Heerenveen, (03-
11-1720); preker te Surhuisterveen (1722-1744). Jan Jogchems doopsgez. Leraar te Drachten, herdacht hem in een ‘lykreden’. De preek van 1716 heeft als toegift”:Den eersten Psalm op het plat frijs berijmd’.
