Grietje laat op 5 augustus 1853 een akte opstellen door de notaris waarin zij verklaart dat Johannes Franciscus haar natuurlijke zoon is. De reden hiervoor ligt in het feit dat haar zoon als Johannes Franciscus Masson wil trouwen maar formeel niet gerechtigd is die geslachtsnaam te dragen. Omdat Sebastianus Franciscus Masson, de geboorte van Johannes Franciscus (Surhuizum, 9 juli 1826) heeft aangegeven, en daarbij heeft verklaard hem te erkennen als zijn natuurlijke zoon, is dit door de verklaring van Grietje toch mogelijk. Op 10 november 1853 huwde Johannes Franciscus Masson met Petronella Beljaers te Kampen. Zij is een dochter van Adriaan Beljaers en Adriana van Ginneke en geboren te Geertruidenberg d.d. 24 december 1825. Bijde huwelijksvoltrekking is haar moeder aanwezig die op dat moment hertrouwd is met Josephus Magorus, haar vader is eerder overleden. Verder verklaart het bruidspaar een dochter te hebben genaamd Margaretha Maria, die geboren is te Kampen d.d. 15 augustus 1853, en haar als hun wettig kind te erkennen.
