Hij zat in het bouwbedrijf van zijn vader, later aannemer. Zijn bijnaam was ìde Dikbuik/de Teewisî. In een publikatie over timmermannen in Noordwijk wordt vermeld: ìIn het kader van het onderzoek voor de monografie over Noordwijk aan Zee is contact opgenomen met de firma Verloop, de belangrijkste aannemers-familie van Noordwijk aan Zee, die al sinds het begin van de negentiende eeuw in het dorp actief was. De vraag of zij nog beschikten over een bouw-archief bleek net te laat te zijn. Het bedrijf was gestopt en ze hadden twee weken eerder `de hele boel weggeflikkerd', waaronder de nodige bouw-tekeningen (onder meer van architect Henk Jesse) en correspondentieî.
