In 1115 erfde hij van zijn schoonvader de functies van burggraaf vanhttps://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mainz">Mainz en graaf van https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graafschap_Rieneck">Rieneck. Hij werd ook voogd van het https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sticht">stift St.-Peter & Alexander te https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aschaffenburg_(stad)">Aschaffenburg. In 1119 steunde Arnold de kandidatuur van https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederik_van_Namen">Frederik van Namen voor de functie van bisschop van Luik, die inderdaad werd gekozen.
