p 15 april 1713 verscheen voor de schepenen van Schelle “meester Anthony Bonavinia, chirurgeyn van syne style ende inghesetene van Schelle” die liet registreren dat hij zich “borghe principael” stelde voor “Sieur Livinus Anthonius Capiteyn hals ghestelde collecteur van mynne eerweerdighe edele heeren der Staeten van Brabant over het recht van vierentwintich stuyvers op yder aeme wyns commende in Brabant ende dat op het tholhuys (te betalen), alwaer den selve (Livinus Anthonius) is woonende ten huyse van syne ouders”.De borgstelling gebeurde “voor den tydt ende termyn van drye consecutieve jaeren” en voor “eene somme van twee duysent guldens capitael courant gelds waervoor de comparant (= Bonavinia) (…) bindt ende te pandt stelt syne persoon ende insghelycks syne goederen roerende ende onroerende present ende toecommende ende speciaelyck syne steene huysinghe met d’hoff dat den selve comparant in woonende”.  Ook andere dorpsnotabelen hadden vertrouwen in Livinus Anthonius want “Petrus Quarteer, notaris ende procureur oock binnen Schelle resideerende” liet optekenen dat hij zich “borghe subsidiaire” stelde en daartoe “oock is verbinende syne persoon ende goederen roerende ende onroerende”. 4


Waarschijnlijk ontvingen Bonavinia en Quarteer in ruil voor hun borgstelling een percentage van het loon van Livinus Anthonius als een soort risicopremie/verzekeringspremie.  Ondanks die vergoeding was het een gedurfd engagement.  Indien Livinus Anthonius ooit in gebreke zou blijven om “van maende tot maende te betaelen (…) by comptoire van den heere raedt ende rentmeester Carolus Van de Werve binnen Antwerpen de penninghe ofte portes van ieder maendt”, dan zouden Bonavinia en Quarteer automatisch op hun borgstelling worden aangesproken.  Om hen hiertegen te beschermen verscheen voor dezelfde schepenbank “dheer Arnout Capitain, ontfanger van syns majesteyts rechten op het voorschreven tholhuys, vader van den gemelden Livinus Anthoin Capiteyn”;.  Die liet er akteren dat hij beloofde “den voorschreven borghe principael ende subsidiaire altoos costeloos ende schade-loos van de borghtocht te ontlasten” indien het ooit mis zou lopen.  Een onderpand voor deze belofte werd niet vermeld.  Kon ook moeilijk want vader Capitaine zijn enige bron van inkomsten was zijn loon en het sterk wisselend “prijsgeld” op in beslag genomen smokkelwaar.
