Notes about Jakob Ecuye de Munck

Hij verdronk tijdens de Sint-Elisabethvloed, op 19 november 1549.
- Piet Verheyen in "Het Land van Beveren", 1991, blz.93:
"De overgrootvader van schilder Adriaan was alleszins ene Jacob de Munck, die omstreeks 1520 geboren is28. Of deze Jacob toen baljuw was te Beveren in 1570, laat ik in het midden.
Mocht het nochtans dezelfde persoon geweest zijn, dan kende hij een noodlottig en bloedig levenseinde.
Op 1 augustus 1576 had hij samen met gewapende landslieden de kompagnie paardenvolk van don Joan Falconetto, die overal in het Waasland plunderde, moordde en roofde, achtervolgd tot op het Vlaams Hoofd.
Maar vanuit het kasteel van Antwerpen had don Sancho d'Avilla hulp gezonden, die de landslieden zo hevig beschoten dat er 80 sneuvelden. Het hoofd van de baljuwwerd afgehouwen en op een spies gestoken. Zo reden zij triomfantelijk naar het kasteel van Antwerpen. (A.J.L. Van de Bogaerde, Het Land van Waes, 1825, blz.193)"


BIOGRAPHY: In opvolging van Willem van Pottelsberghe werd hij tot baljuw van het Land van Beveren benoemd (1544/1545).
