Petrus Antonius Franciscus (Piet) van Ierlant is geboren op vrijdag 26 februari 1897 in Tilburg, zoon van Antonius Franciscus van Ierlant (zie I) en Maria Agnes van den Heuvel. Piet is overleden op dinsdag 27 november 1973 in Tilburg, 76 jaar oud.
Piet trouwde, 28 jaar oud, op dinsdag 4 augustus 1925 in Baarle-Nassau met Maria Thérèsia Joosen, ongeveer 22 jaar oud. Maria is geboren omstreeks 1903 in Baarle Nassau, dochter van Felix Joosen en Annna Maria van Beers.

Notes about Petrus Antonius Franciscus "Piet" van Ierlant

29 juni 2013 start weer een van de grootste wielerspektakels van de wereld, de Tour de France. Dit jaar zelfs de 100ste editie ! En ook dit jaar zullen weer Nederlandse ploegen deelnemen. Niet velen weten dat twee Tilburgers Ruud de Grood en Piet van Ierlant hebben bijgedragen aan het feit dat ook Nederlanders in Frankrijk zijn gaan rijden. De dochter van Piet van Ierlant, Marie-Jes heeft een boek geschreven over de relatie tussen Nederland en de Tour de France met als zwaarterpunt de jaren vijftig. Het is recent in eigen beheer uitgegeven en heel overzichtelijk vormgegeven. Basis voor het boek vormt het archief van Piet van Ierlant, dat ze enkele jaren geleden schonk aan het Regionaal Archief Tilburg.

Haar ouders Piet van Ierlant en Marie-Therese Joosen hadden vanaf 1923 een bloeiende dameshoedenzaak in de Heuvelstraat. Vooral haar moeder bestierde de zaak, vader raakte vanaf 1932 betrokken als manager bij de wielersuccessen van Jan Pijnenburg oftewel Jan Kanonbal. Piet van Ierlant bouwde hierdoor een groot internationaal netwerk op in de wielerwereld.
Het was dan ook niet vreemd dat na de Tweede Wereldoorlog Van Ierlant betrokken raakte bij de organisatie om van start te gaan in de Tour de France. Dat had soms ook heel praktische voordelen, niet iedereen beheerste de Franse taal, maar Piet van Ierlant wel. In 1950 wordt Piet van Ierlant samen met de Jan Pijnenburg door Ru de Grood gevraagd om samen met hem het Touravontuur aan te gaan. Piet werd ploegleider. Kees Pellenaars volgde het jaar daarop Jan Pijnenburg op en Piet van Ierlant -toen al 54 jaar- ging mee als assistent. Bijzondere jaren volgden tot 1958, die in detail door de schrijfster worden beschreven. De schrijfster verhaalt ook over het einde van de samenwerking.

Marie-Jes Ghering - Van Ierlant heeft met dit boek een eerbetoon willen brengen aan haar vader en daar is ze in geslaagd. Het zou ons niet verbazen als deze geschiedenis ook nog een plaats krijgt in de nog te realiseren Wielerwereld in Rucphen of bij de viering van het 100jarig jubileum van de Tour de France.
