    Fulco I van Anjou (888 - 942) was een zoon van Ingelgerius en van Adelheid van Gâtinais.

    Hij werd in 898 door Robert van Parijs gedelegeerd tot burggraaf van Angers en Tours. Hij was voortdurend in conflict met Bretagne en de Vikingen. In 907 veroverde hij Nantes, en liet zich vanaf 908 graaf van Nantes (en Anjou) noemen. In 908 moest hij wel Tours afstaan en in 914 werd Nantes door de Vikingen veroverd. In 919 moest hij zijn aanspraken op Nantes opgeven ten gunste van Bretagne.

    Fulco breidde wel zijn bezittingen rond Angers sterk uit en noemde zichzelf in 929 in een akte graaf van Anjou. Hij was ook lekenabt van Saint-Aubin te Angers en een tweede abdij die in aktes wordt vermeld als "Sancti Lizinni". Fulco is begraven in de kerk van Saint Martin te Châteauneuf.

    Fulk I of Anjou (870 – 942), called 'the Red' (Latin: Rufus) (French: Le Roux), held the county of Anjou first as Viscount then Count until his death.

    Life

    Born about c.?870,[1] Fulk was the son of Ingelger of Anjou and Adelais de Amboise.[2] He was the first count of Anjou ruling the county from c.?908 to 942.[2] In 899 he became Viscount of Tours and in 905, Count of Tours.[2] About 90-918 he was Count of Nantes, and in 929 he became count of Anjou.[2] He increased the territory as a viscountcy of Angers and it became a county around 929. During his reign, he was permanently at war with the Normans and the Bretons. He occupied the county of Nantes in 907, but abandoned it to the Bretons in 919. Fulk I died around 942.[2]

    Fulk married Roscille de Loches, daughter of Warnerius (Widone),Seigneur de Loches, de Villentrois, & de la Haye, and his wife Tecandra.
