Born January 16, 1913 at Black River, St. Elizabeth's Parish, Jamaica, the fourth of eight children of Septimus Nash and Bertha Muriel Michaels. Educated at Munro College, a residential school in St. Elizabeth's Parish. First career bookkeeping. Served in Royal Air Force as radar crew in England in WWII. Immigrated to Canada in 1946. Married Helen Catherine McGuigan (now Miller) of Cedar Springs, Kent County, Ontario in 1948, had one child, Michael, and separated in 1952. Became professional photographer in London, Ontario. Moved to Toronto c. 1967. Changed career to stationary engineer. Married Berendina (Dina) Johanna Kleinpaste, originally of Renkum, Netherlands, in 1968. Widowed in 1983. Immigrated to Costa Rica as retiree in 1986. Married Maria del Carmen Sibaja Torres of Santa Ana, Costa Rica, in 1989. Widowed again in 1990. Came near to death with meningitis and pneumonia in 1999. Had invested life savings with Luis Enrique Villalobos Camacho in 1996; lost savings when Villalobos fled Costa Rica in 2001, the latter still a fugitive wanted by Interpol for fraud and money laundering. Returned to Canada in 2006. Survived by son Michael and his wife Linda of Hamilton, Ontario, sister Vivienne of Vero Beach, Florida, brother Douglas and his wife Dorothy of Oakville, Ontario, sister Daphne of Kingston, Jamaica, brother Sydney of North Vancouver, British Columbia, many nieces and nephews of whom his favourite was niece Deborah of Oakville, Ontario, and grandchildren Gabriel, Samuel and Daniel. Predeceased by parents, siblings Donald, Joyce and Derrick, nephew Jeffrey, lifelong Jamaican friends Hal Strudwick and Don Brandt, and by American friend and guardian angel in Costa Rica, Gail Dianne Nystrom. Notorious in last few decades for his fruitarian diet. Loved God, order, precision, photography, nature and pretty women, loves passed on to his son. Burial at 3:00 p.m., Thursday, January 22, 2009 at Woodland Cemetery, Section 1, along with ashes of Dina.
