• De familie Oostindië die vanaf de 17de eeuw in Drenthe en in de omgeving van Kampen-Zwolle woonde, heette oorspronkelijk Estié. Het is van oorsprong een hugenotenfamilie. Het Franse Estié is in de Nedersaksische talen verbasterd tot Oostindië (of Oosindie zoals in Drenthe wordt gezegd). De stamreeks is als volgt gereconstrueerd: Simon Estié, hoedenmaker in de Dauphine (Frankrijk); vader van Andries Simon Estjé (ca. 1670-Zwartsluis 1744), die trouwde met Aaltje Wolters van Munster (Staphorst 1669-Zwartsluis 1748); hun kinderen kregen de achternaam Estjé, met uitzondering van Sijmen Wolters Soetebotter (Zwartsluis 1693-Hoogeveen 1757), die trouwde met Jantje Coerts Winkel (ca. 1672-Hoogeveen 1755); zij kregen tien kinderen; acht kinderen werden Oostindie gedoopt of noemden zich later zo en twee kinderen kregen de familienaam Soetebotter [Informant: Marga Zwiggelaar ((XXXXX@XXXX.XXX)), 26-2-2003].
