'Stichting Het Drentse Landschap is in het bezit van een collectie schilderijen, die oorspronkelijk deel uitmaakten van een wandbeschildering afkomstig uit het schultehuis van Emmen, dat in 1936 is gesloopt. Restanten van dat geschilderd behang uit 1719 zijn behouden gebleven. Op een van de doeken is de signatuur Wijcher Dannenberg aangetroffen. Mijn vermoeden is dat het hier gaat om Wicher Meinards Danneberg. Hij zal ten tijde van het schilderen van de werken ongeveer 30 jaar oud zijn geweest. Het is bekend dat leden van belangrijke geslachten zich vaak bekwaamden in de kunsten, dus het is niet vreemd om te veronderstellen dat de schilderingen door Wicher Meinards Dannenberg zijn aangebracht. Ook het feit dat er tussen Drentse en Overijsselse geslachten van oudsher veel verbanden bestonden, maakt de hypothese aannemelijk.'
