      Zwartsluis, 29 Juni. In den afgeloopen nacht, omstreeks half twee, ontdekte men dat in de turfloods van de hh. J. Dragt en D. Buisman achter in het Groote Lageland, waar p. m. 300,000 turven geborgen waren, brand was ontstaan. De brandweer bevond zich zoo spoedig mogelijk op het terrein, doch ondanks den ijver van het personeel, brandde de geheele schuur af en was de turf al spoedig één vuurklomp. De brand sloeg over op het vaartuig van schipper Wuijs, van Texel, dat vlak over het pakhuis lag en een gedeelte van de turf zou laden. De scheepstimmerman J. Borrel kwam op den inval een gat in het vaartuig te slaan, waardoor het grootendeels onder water raakte en verder voor brand bewaard bleef. Nog werd een partij riet van de weduwe N. de Jong aan den overkant der sloot, waarin het vaartuig lag, een prooi der vlammen. De schuur met turf alleen was verzekerd.
