      Herm van Eijken (1832-1913). Hij was getrouwd met Geesje Prins. Schipper Herm Eijken werd in 1873 gekozen uit 9 sollicitanten, waaronder drie
      leden van de familie Troost. Op 17 april 1873 was hij aanwezig op het Huis
      te Echten, waar hij een eed aflegde. Het verslag daarvan werd persoonlijk
      door Jhr. Rudolph Arent van Echten van Holthe op papier uitgewerkt en
      vervolgens door beide heren ondertekend. We weten niet hoe lang hij in
      functie is geweest. In 1881 werd het Vaartfonds opgeheven, en werd het
      daarbij horende kasboek buiten gebruik gesteld. Er zijn nog losse afrekeningen over huur van 1887. Herm raakte daarna uit zicht. Het was ook de
      tijd dat de kleine praam op zijn retour was. De turf uit Hoogeveen zelf was
      praktisch verdwenen. De turfhandel was bar slecht in die periode. Zo stierf
      de Hoogeveense turfmarkt in Zwartsluis een langzame dood.
