Hendrik Coster en Willem van den Berg wijzen op zijn drankgebruik toen hij nog aan de Nieuwesluis woonde. Hij is met de schutters (patriotten) van Zwolle, welke aan Zwartsluis hebben gelegen, op 'aannadering' van de Pruisische troepen vertrokken.
