    Albertus Johannes ter Steege (1781-1852). Hij was een zoon van de grote vervener Paulus Prijs ter Stege en Rolina Schippers, en zelf in Hoogeveen eveneens actief als veenbaas en veeneigenaar. Hij was enige jaren turfmakelaar voor de Compagnie van 5000 morgen, maar moest er in 1831 mee stoppen, na een conflict met deze Compagnie. Er waren klachten binnengekomen, die erop wezen dat hij turf rechtstreeks door de schippers liet verkopen, en hij zijn volledige deel vergoeding vroeg, ook al had de turf niet zijn volledige waarde opgebracht. Albert bleef als turfmakelaar actief en bleef in Zwartsluis wonen, waar hij ook overleed. Hij was getrouwd met Jantje ten Hoorn.
