Uit het Burgerregister van de stad Zwolle blijkt dat: 'Er heeft voor enige maanden een ongelukkige brand gewoed in het huis van Willem Somer en Berendina van der Veen. Daarom verkrijgt hij de burgerschapsrechten van de stad Zwolle gratis per 18-5-1774. Dit geldt ook voor zijn kinderen Jan, Anna Maria en Johannes Jacobus.' In dit verzoek omburgerrechten schrijft hij dat hij Gereformeerd is en uit Coevorden komt.
