Notes about Frans Frances DIRKS

Frans was van beroep schoenverkoper en heeft tot 1843 in het garnizoen van Maastricht gezeten en is op 06-07-1843 in Tilburg gaan wonen.

In 1830 was de 9 daagse veldtocht van de Belgen om zelfstandig te worden. Zoon Frans Dirks (van Wypke) was toen 18 jaar en kruier van beroep. Hij zette zijn kruiwagen neer op de Dam (in Amsterdam) voor het Commandantshuis en tekende om ons vaderland te dienen. Hij werd in Tilburg gedetacheerd en legde aldus de grondslag voor de Brabantse tak van de familie. Hij heeft enige jaren in Brabant gediend als militair. Hij moet een man van groot postuur zijn geweest. In Tilburg kreeg hij kennis aan Maria van de Put en zij trouwden daar in 1843. Maria van de Put was RK en Frans is toen waarschijnlijk ook RK geworden, zodat sindsdien alle nazaten RK zijn geworden.
Frans Francis Dirks leerde in Tilburg het schoenenvak en liet zelf schoenen maken. Deze zond hij per boot, in manden, maar zijn moeder Wypke en Paul Dam op de Stroomarkt. De verkoop van Brabants schoenwerk gaat erg goed, Wypke en Paul worden ook een dagje ouder en kunnen het werk niet meer aan. Zij hebben toen haar kleinkind Paul Dirks (kind van Frans Francis en Maria van de Put) gevraagd om naar Amsterdam te komen om daarzelf de schoenen te verkopen. Daarmee is Paul de grondlegger van de (verdere) Amsterdamse tak vande familie.
