Johan Croese. Woonde in Munsterland, wierd door Den Bisschop van Munster geprest om te dienen tegen de Staten der Vereenigden Nederlanden en den Prins van Orange
.In den jaare 1600 was hij onder de bezetting van het Fort St. Andries boven Bommel; gaf dat Fort mede over aan Prins Maurits; trad in der Staaten dienst; en wierd door gem. Prins aangesteld tot Capitein over een Compagnie in het Regiment Voetvolk genaamd de Nieuwe Geusen.
In zijn boven genoemde qualiteit was hij, op den 2en july 1600 in den vermaarden Slag op 't Strand bij Nieuwpoort in Vlaenderen; wierd daar zwaar in 't hoofd gekloofd, en vervolgens na Zutphen in Gelderland gebragt; daar hij kort daarna, overleden en begraven is.
