2 CONC onttroond en vermoord had, moest Valentinianus hem als Augustuserkennen. Desondanks werd hij door Maximus uit Italië verdreven, maarTheodosius
2 CONC I herstelde Valentinianus in zijn macht (388). De FrankArbogastes, die Gallië voor de keizer bestuurde, raakte met hem inconflict en
2 CONC liet hem in 392 vermoorden.
