Gerard van ZEELAND, geboren omstreeks 1230 in Sint-Truiden?, ,. Gerard is overleden omstreeks 1300, ongeveer 70 jaar oud. Vermoedelijk de vader van Jan van Zeeland. De van Zeeland´s komen van oorsprong uit het noordelijk deel van Brabant. Vanaf de dertiende eeuw bevonden ze zich in de omgeving van het plaatsje Zeeland en haar omgeving. In deze heerlijkheid bezaten ze een huis (land van Ravenstein). Vanaf de dertiende eeuw wonen ze al in ´s Hertogenbosch. De eerste van Zeeland die in de omgeving van ´s Hertogenbosch wordt genoemd draagt de naam van Gerard van Zeeland. Hij werd ook wel Zelandre genoemd. In de periode 1259-1263 verschijnt hij voor de rechtbank in zijn functie als vertrouweling voor de abdij van Sint Truiden, waarbij hij de rechten van de abdij beschermt in Babilonienbroek/Dussen.
