NOTE: MATHILDE Mathilde [Engeland] (1102 - Notre-Dame-des-Prés, bij Rouen, 10sept.
2 CONC 1167), Duits keizerin, later koningin van Engeland, was een dochtervan Hendrik I van Engeland. Zij huwde te Mainz op 7 jan. 1114 met deDuitse
2 CONC keizer Hendrik V , die in 1125 overleed. Mathilde werd in 1127erkend als opvolgster in Engeland en in Normandië van haar vader, diegeen
2 CONC wettige zoon meer had. Op 17 juni 1128 huwde ze te Le Mans GeoffroyPlantagenet, graaf van Anjou. Bij de dood van Hendrik I werd haar rechtop de
2 CONC troon betwist door Stefan van Blois (1135-1154), wat tot eenburgeroorlog leidde, de Anarchie. Mathilde gaf de strijd tegen Stefan pasop in
2 CONC 1148, toen ze Engeland verliet en in de buurt van Rouen ging wonen.In 1154 werd de zoon van Mathilde en Geoffroy als Hendrik II koning
2 CONC vanEngeland.
