Brig.-Gen. George Hume Stewart IV was born in 1828 and died in 1903. His father was Maj. Gen. George Hume Stewart III (1790-1867). On April 16, 1861, they abandoned their home at Maryland Square to join the Confederate States.
It was used as a military hospital during the Civil War - Jarvis Hospital - and oddly enough, the property was returned to General Steuart after the war. He then sold it in favor of another family owned property near Annapolis.
It's not clear in the record I have if it was the father or son who sold it, but based on their ages I'm guessing it was the son.
The Steuart Mansion was called Maryland Square and it sat on the western outskirts of Baltimore. It was located a bit west of Fulton St & Baltimore St.
