[doddimp.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 14, Ed. 1, Tree #0434, Date of Import: Apr 15, 2001] Simeon Luttrell According to LDS records, Simeon Luttrell was born about 1620 in Luttrellstown about eight miles from Dublin, Ireland. Nothing more is known about him or his wife at this time. However it is known that widespread English settlement in Ireland did not start until the policy of the "plantation of Ireland" was begun in the late 1500's and continued into the 1600's. It is therefore likely that the Luttrell family was in Ireland for no more than one or two generations before Simeon's birth. In any event the ancestral home of the Luttrell family was in England before it was in Ireland. Dunster Castle, located three miles from the town of Minehead in the county of Somerset, has been in the Luttrell family from 1376 until it was given to the National Trust in 1976. The first record of the name in England is Sir Geoffrey De Luterel who owned lands in the counties of Nottingham and Derby and who died in 1218. The Luttrell name was likey brought to England from France in the Norman conquest of 1066. The name in France is spelled Loutrel.
