[doddimp.FTW] [Brøderbund WFT Vol. 14, Ed. 1, Tree #0434, Date of Import: Apr 15, 2001] Henry Hastings, Sr and Elizabeth (Unknown) Henry Hastings was born about 1728 and Elizabeth about 1740. Both were probably born in Orange County, North Carolina. Henry was a farmer and cabinet maker. Orange County deed records show Henry's acquisition in November 1752 of 184 acres of land on a branch of the Eno River. The Orange County Court Minutes in March 1755 note that he was appointed constable in place of Thomas Cate. All of Henry and Elizabeth's 10 children appear to have been born in Orange County, North Carolina. The five daughters were: Mary; Margaret; Isabell, born about 1766; Elizabeth; and Ester. The five sons were: James, born about 1756; Joseph, born November 25, 1757; John; William; and Henry, born about 1770. Sometime during the French and Indian War (1754-1763) Henry Hastings was a signer of petitions to the Earl of Granville and the King of England which expressed concern about the dangers which the signers faced from the French and their Indian allies. The petition further stated that as most of their families originally came from the north of Ireland and were Presbyterians the signers objected to payment of a tax to support the clergy of the Church of England. The book "Accounts of United States and North Carolina War of the Revolution, Book C" states that "Henry Hastings, Sr, furnished sundries and cash to militia of North Carolina, Virginia, and South Carolina...". Sons James and Joseph also served in the Revolutionary War as Minutemen in the North Carolina militia. Elizabeth died July 7, 1800, in Orange County, at the age of 60. Henry died May 17, 1812, also in Orange County, at the age of 84.
