May 12, 1784, in Charlestown, N.Y.; m. Lucy Clark, Sister of Seth Clark, who m. Asenath CORBIN in 1806. He lived in Cooperstown, Russia, and in what is now Clayton, Jefferson County, New York. He was an earnest Methodist, and the first M.E. Church north of Black River, New York, was formed in his house. He d. June 17, 1865; she d. in 1863, both at Clayton."

Text: CHILD'S GAZETTEER OF JEFFERSON COUNTY TOWN OF CLAYTON
Elkanah CORBIN, a native of Russia, N. Y., came to Clayton in 1818, and died here in 1864, aged 75 years. He married Lucy A. Clark, and their children were Simon J., Ira H., Melzer, Irving, and Alanson C. The latter was born in the town of Russia, and when seven years of age came to Clayton with his parents. He married Eliza, daughter of Elijah and Betsey (Howe) Bowe, of Troy, N. Y., who bore him 10 children, viz.: Elizabeth, Lucy A., Caroline, Harriet, Ellen, Flora, Emily, Salomia, Sherman and James H. The latter, who was born in Clayton, married Caroline A., daughter of Calvin and Zaire A. (Romain) Guiteau, of Cape Vincent, and their children are Carrie I., Harry C., Herman J., and Ernest W. Mr. CORBIN is a market gardener.

Elkany (sic) CORBIN, Jr. married Lucy Clarke, (my father's sister) and was among the earliest settlers of the Town of Clayton in Jefferson County.
There were four sons named: Simeon, Ira H., Melza (sic) and Alanson. The parents and children are all buried in the old cemetery near Corbins Corners, about a mile north of Depauville where rests Wilbur Vincent, father of sister Betsy's husband. He being the first white man who died north of Depauville among the early settlers of that section of Jefferson County.
(Added information includes the following: He lived many years in Russia, Herkimer County, before he moved to Clayton, Elkanah Jr. died in 1864. He was 75 years old when he died. He was born in 1789 in Charleston, Montgomery Co., N.Y. He was 29 years old when he moved in 1818 with his family to Clayton, N.Y.)
