Residence Fayette,Iowa nativity Illinois. Enlisted Aug. 15, 1862. Mustered Sept. 6, 1862. Transferred to Company F Thirty-fourth and Thirty-eighth Consolidated, Jan. 1, 1865. Mustered out Aug. 15, 1865, Houston, Texas.------The 38th Iowa was nicknamed the Martyr Regiment because more than a third of their number died of disease in Mississippi and Louisiana in the last months of 1863 shortly after the Siege of Vicksburg. Many were discharged for disability and died on the way home or after they arrived home. So few able-bodied men were left that the 38th was consolidated with the 34th Iowa.

"Daniel F CORBIN Civil War veteran of the 38th Iowa Infantry Co. A built a couple of homes in Jeffers, MN was a charter member of the Congregational Church north of Fedora.
Article from the Jeffers, MN Review July 16, 1998 reprinted from the July 13, 1905 paper. "Dan CORBIN was called to Carthage, South Dakota the past week due to a tornado passing over his farm there. It was completely destroyed.
In 1854 he came to Fayette County with his parents, at not quite 20 years of age he enlisted in Company A, of the 38th Iowa at West Union, under Captain. J. Welch. Transferred to Co F of the 34th Iowa Inf. Regiment.
On 31 Dec 1864, he was at the siege of Vicksburg, Blakely, Ft. Morgan and Port Gibson. He was given an honorable discharge at Houston, Texas. Daniel and his family belonged to the Baptist Church. He held the office of Road Supervisor and School Director. In 1881 Daniel CORBIN moved his family to South Dakota and took up a homestead. Daniel put the fence up around Prairie Flower Cemetery, Myron Crane donated the land.
Daniel was living in Illyria Township, Fayette County, Iowa in both the 1870 & 1880 census.
In 1878, Daniel owned 150 acres of land (near) Wadena, Iowa; his land was valued @ $3,000." In the 1900 census, Daniel is in Miner Township, Miner County, SD.
