A newspaper publishes the following:
COUNTESS OF ORFORD.
"Lady Orford has returned to London. This lady is one of our popular American peeresses, and was Miss Louis CORBIN of New York. she is a great traveler, and has seen as much of distant lands as Mrs. Alan Garner or Lady Howard Vincent. When at home she is interested in music, gives cheery dinners, dresses well, and pays frequent visits to London and the Riviera. She has no son, but a dear and only daughter, now fifteen years old. Lord Orford has seen many sides of life, in cities, and in uncivilized parts of the world. He was once an officer in the Royal Navy, and suffered shipwreck at sea; he was present a the annexation of the Fiji islands, where no white man had ever trod; later on he joined the Turkish army, and afterwards served at courts, when he joined the late Lord Rosslyn's special mission to Madrid at the marriage of Alphonso XII. He likes sport, is an expert on tarpon-fishing, and wrote on the subject in the Badminton Library. His country place is Mannington Hall, Norfolk."
