Mrs. Francis A. Ward
At her home on the Paris Hill Road early Thursday morning occurred the death of
Mrs. Francis A. Ward in her 88th year. Death was due to bronchitis. Laura
CORBIN Ward was born at Williamstown, Massachusetts 8 Aug 1825, a daughter of
Captain John Harlow and Susanna Keiff CORBIN, both of whom were natives of
Plymouth, Massachusetts. On the paternal side Mrs. Ward was a lineal descendant
of John Littlejohn, who came over on the Mayflower, and on the maternal side she
was of French Huguenot origin. She was married to Mr. Ward 4 Oct 1851 at
Sherburne, NY, where she was a teacher.
Surviving are one brother, William Harlow CORBIN of Saratoga Springs, a son,
Irving H. Ward, a daughter, Miss Elizabeth M. Ward, a grandson, Gaylord D. Ward,
and a great-granddaughter, Mariam Esther Ward, all of this town. In early life,
Mrs. Ward united with the Congregational Church.
Funeral services were held at the house on Saturday at 1PM, Rev. F. N. Churchill
of the Methodist Church, officiating. The text chosen was from Saint John, “In
my Father’s house are many mansions; If it were not so, I would have told you.”
The following favorite verses of Mrs. Ward’s were read:
In heavenly love abiding,
No change my heart shall fear;
And safe is such confiding,
For nothing changes here.
The storm may roar without me,
My heart may low be laid,
But God is round about me.
And can I be dismayed?
Wherever he may guide me,
No want shall turn me back;
My Shepherd is beside me,
And nothing can I lack.
His wisdom over waketh,
His sight is never dim,
He knows the way he taketh,
And I will walk with him.
Green pastures are before me,
Which yet I have not seen,
Bright skies will soon be o’er me,
Where darkest clouds have been.
My hope I cannot measure,
My path to life is free,
My Saviour has my treasure,
And He will walk with me.
The interment was made in Hill Crest Cemetery at Paris Hill.
