Cause of Death:debility
Refernce is made of Joseph Lingg, in the 'Index to Records of Aliens Declarations of Intent', Pennsylvania Historical Commission 1940 Vol. 6 From Philadelphia Naturalization Records, page 371. It is shown that on Sept 16, 1822, he made a Declaration of Intent in the Quarter Sessions Court. His date of birth, as recorded in this document is Sept 15, 1799. He was sworn in as a citizen of the U.S.,Dec 1, 1828. A James McCoy was his sponsor/witness and attested to the fact that he (Joseph Lingg) had resided in the U.S. for 5 years an dfor "the year preceeding his application for citizenship, had lived in the State of Pennsylvania". (It is possible that some records of Joseph Lingg may be recorded as Joseph "Lyngg". This is how it is recorded in the 1830 PA census. The record is on page 025, under Philadelphia Co, Cedar Ward...) Document submitted by Valvardi family, Springfield PA, listing information taken from an "old family bible". shows his given name as 'Joseph W. Lingg' and date of birth as 10/18/1798. the Altrogge document refers to him as 'Joseph Lingg, 1st'. The 'Declaration of Intent' (1822) shows his name only as 'Joseph Lingg'. Since the 1822 record is closest to the actual person/time, this is the name and date of birth that is used in this record. The bible record, while informative, had the data entered many years after the events (by his gran daughter). (This is the first and only time that a given middle initial of " W" appears in any record for 'Joseph Lingg') Per J. Valvardi: entries in the 'Family Bible' were made by the "grandaughter of Joseph Lingg". He also noted that in the 1860 census, Joseph gave his age as 63. This indicates a birth year of 1797 - consisten with the date of birth of 'Francis Joseph Lingg' (ie; 2nd child of Josephus D.F. Lingg and Anna Maria Affentranger).
