Mrs. Caroline Bode, wife of Franz Bode of the undertaking firm of Bode & Hemberger, drowned in Reservoir Park in Springfield, IL. Mrs. Bode had last been seen leaving her home and had been in feeble health for the past several years, suffering from "female complaints". She had been taken to Hot Springs, Milwaukee, and other places of healing and had been given all the care that could be by her husband, brothers and sisters. She had an operation in New York and had seemingly done well three years afterwards but had recently begun to have bad spells once again. Her husband had gone about town looking for her but she was not found until two watch factory employees had spied her shawl on a walkway near the basin and assistance was called to retrieve the body.
She was the daughter of John Pierik, sr. and was 30 years of age. She left a husband, one son, Frank Bode, aged 12 years, a sister Mrs. W. C. Sommer, and two brothers, John C. Pierick and Herman Pierik all of Springfield. The coroner's inquest returned a verdict of death by drowning.
