Died as a youth, 10 years, Spinal Menigitis
Oorzaak: cerebro spinal meningitis
From the Alton Review of April 25, 1884. Arie C., eldest son of Postmaster Kuyper, of Orange City, died on Thursday, Apr 17, aged 10 years. The deceased was taken while at school on Monday with that dreadful malady, cerebro spinal meningitis. A young man named Swarts, who resided near that place, also recently died of the same disease, and a few others prostrated with it. It is hoped it will not spread through the community. Dr. Owens, of this place, says it is not contagious; warm and dry weather would tend to check it. [[ I wonder if this was ecephaelitis caused by mosquitoes?]]
