Henry A. Schipper, age 82, of Aplington, Iowa, was born the son of Andrew and Lena (Johnson) Schipper on April 23, 1922, north of Kesley, Iowa on his parents’ farm. He received his education from Ripley Township country schoolhouse #8, near his home.On December 3, 1947, Henry was united in marriage with Effie Mehmen at the First Reformed Church Parsonage in Aplington, Iowa. Henry and Effie lived and farmed three different farms, all north of Aplington, until they moved to town in 1984. He continued farming with his sons until he retired in 1995. Henry enjoyed farming and raising livestock, and his favorite tractor was an orange AC tractor. Henry was a member of Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington, where he served as an Elder and sang in the choir when he was younger. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Henry loved music and could play a variety of instruments including the guitar, harmonica and the accordion. He especially loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. Henry died on Friday, March 04, 2005, at the Maple Manor Care Center, Aplington, Iowa, of natural causes. He was preceded in death by parents; a sister, Anna Marks; and three brothers, George A., John A. and Andrew Schipper. Henry is survived by his wife of 57years, Effie Schipper of Aplington; two sons, Merle Schipper (special friend, Jeri Hoffman) of Aplington and Jim (Belva) Schipper of Aplington; one daughter, Kathy (Rick) Penning of Wellsburg, Iowa; five grandchildren, Ryan (LeAnn) Schipper, Todd (Jessica) Schipper, Carrie Schipper, Dean Penning, Curtis (Cam) Penning; two step grandchildren, Zach and Michelle; four great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Brayden, Keaton, Jaden; three brothers, Harvey (Esther) of Aplington, Paul (Irma) Schipper of Parkersburg, Iowa and Lee (Dorothy) Schipper of Aplington; four sisters, Kate Aalderks of Kesley, Iowa, Helena Eilderts of Aplington, Grace (Don) Huisman of Wellsburg, Iowa and Hattie (Edwin) Behrends of Wellsburg, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Jennie Schipper of Aplington and Alberta Schipper of Parkersburg, Iowa. Funeral Services were held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, March 7, 2005 at the Bethel Reformed Church, rural Aplington, Iowa with Rev. Scott Summers officiating. Organist was Becky Jungling. Soloist Deb Essink sang “The Storm Passes By” and “Oh That Will Be Glory For Me.” Congregational Hymns were “What a Friend We Have In Jesus” and “How Great Thou Art”. Honorary Casketbearers were his great grandchildren, Ryleigh Schipper, Brayden Penning, Keaten Penning and Jaden Penning. Casketbearers were Ryan Schipper, Todd Schipper, Carrie Schipper, Dean Penning, Curtis Penning and Zach Morris. Flower Committee was Martha Johnson and Diletta Buseman. Interment was in Pleasant View Cemetery, rural Aplington, Iowa. Redman-Schwartz Funeral Chapel, Aplington, was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the family.
