She is recorded thusly: 'Buhmann, Marie, Miss, r. 530 Third'.d in the Tombstone, AZ. Terr. city directory as proprietors of a Bakery at 515 Fremont Street. Their son, Charlie wrote to Max in 1962, "The Langpaap's ran a restaurant and bakery on Fremont Street between 5th and 6th in the years 1880 to 1883. It was in these premises that both Alma and Anna first saw the light of day", i.e., the Langpaap family lived on the restaurant premises in these years.ea, and was imported to Tombstone for use in her bakery and restaurants. Even after she closed her businesses, she continued to make her pies in her home, for sale to people who came by to purchase. She also gave sewing lessons to women and girls in Tombstone to earn extra money. She was raised in a middle class family in Marne, a family of school teachers, ministers and professors, and certainly had been taught skills for proper housekeeping for German households. She also played the piano well, and had a fine upright piano in San Francisco, at least.mily returned to San Francisco, and as war was starting in Europe, before the United States was involved in any way, Marie used to stand on the street corner near their home with a basket and hold a sign asking for donations for the soldiers. She wasn't campaigning for U.S. soldiers, but German soldiers, her sympathies lying in that side. She also kept up a healthy correspondence with relatives in Schleswig/Holstein, some of whom remained in Marne, but some of whom had moved to Hamburg. Unfortunately, all of her correspondence was destroyed after her death by family who didn't recognize their potential importance to descendents [like me. RLC].
