Dennis F. Blizzard, in a letter to David A. Navorska, writes:
At my request a colleague archivist at the Maryland Hall of Records re-checked originals. A section of the Archives is designated The Scharf Papers Marriage License and Returns. 1) The Clerk of the Baltimore County Court recorded amarriage license for Christopher ALLwood and Lor-ii- Blizard on December 10, 1802. 2) The Rev. J. Simmons a Meth. Episcopal cleric returned the license of Christopher Allwood and Larinia Blizard for his Baltimore County Curcuit for years1787 thru 1802.'
Mrs. Stringfellow then checked her documentation & had an archivist examine & copy the record at the archives in Annapolis. The document has written as follows,
'A True and Just account of Marriages Celebrated by me by License since my last return, in Novr. 29th 1802 -- Lewis Richards ~
1802
Decr. 10. Married Christopher Allwood Loni Blizard. - ...'
The Loni could also be read Loui, Lori, Lovi.
Mrs. Stringfellow's research into the background finds him to be a Baptist cleric.
Maryland State Papers (Scharf Collection) Box 3/81 Christopher Allwood 29 November 1802 [MdHR 19,999-003-081 1/8/5/10]
Based on the evidence of the the above document; & the Moravian journals & registers, that 'Susana' Blizard was raised a Baptist; the evidence is highly in favor of the Baptist cleric, Lewis Richards, performing the rite.
16 Apr 1996 - I called the Gnadenhutten library & asked the name of the township which lay to the south of Gnadenhutten. A librarian examined a current map and an older atlas. She said Clay Twp. bordered the incorportated town ofGnadenhutten & extended south pretty far. Lavinia's home would be in that twp. & it would be in that twp. where she died. - David A. Navorska xvi Apr MCMXCVI - Irving TX
The Clay Twp. border with Rush Twp. is very close to this area. Since Christopher Alwood's census was taken as a part of Rush Twp., it is possible that their residence was in Rush Twp.
