Funeral Services will be Friday, October 4, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, Minnesota. Rev. Joe Behnke officiating.
Burial in Ocheyedan Township Cemetery in Ocheyedan, Iowa.
Visitation will be Thursday, October 3, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. with the family present from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. at the Andringa Funeral Chapel in Ocheyedan.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Matthew Lutheran Church of Worthington in remembrance of Gladys.
Gladys Adra Heetland was born on February 20, 1921, on the family farm home in Lake Wilson, MN. She was the daughter of Wesley and Emma (Jensen) Hromatko.
She lived her youth in Lake Wilson where she attended school and graduated from high school.
Eldon Heetland of Ocheyedan, IA, first met Gladys in the late 1930's when his parents took him to meet their new landlords. They discovered that they were born on the exact same day.
They were united in marriage on June 13, 1943 at Gladys' family farm home in Lake Wilson. They lived and farmed in Ocheyedan. Gladys was a great help for Eldon on the farm and was the caregiver for the extended family. She enjoyed being a mother and wife and was selfless and longsuffering to her family and friends. She was very witty and enjoyed writing letters to her family, doing crossword puzzles, baking bread and cooking.
Eldon and Gladys moved to Ecumen Meadows in Worthington, MN in March of 2011.
A lifelong baptized and confirmed Lutheran, Gladys was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Worthington, MN.
Gladys passed away on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Ecumen Meadows in Worthington.
Those left to cherish her memories are her husband of 70 years, Eldon Heetland of Worthington, MN; her children: Adra Gipson of Seminary, MS, Stephen and LaVonne Heetland of Alamogordo, NM, Nona and Jim Jensen of Fairfield Glade, TN, Sidney and Mary Heetland of Fairfax, VA, Gaylon and Rose Heetland of Cedar Rapids, IA; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Emma Hromatko; one brother, Annel Hromatko and one sister Wilma Hromatko.
