LifeSketch: Henry Bucher r, dean and alumni director, died Friday at Riverside Hospital in New Port Richey, Fla., after an illness of six months. Bucher, 75, lived at 11936 Bayonet Drive, New Port Richey. A 1933 graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School and a 1953 graduate of Millersville University, he earned two masters degrees and pursued doctoral work at Penn State University. He served on the faculty and was dean of men at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1955 to 1959. He then joined the staff at Millersville University, where he served until 1978 as an associate professor of English, associate dean of men, dean of men and director of alumni affairs. He was named a professor emeritus. A former employee of the Lancaster Post Office, Bucher was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as a sergeant major in World War II. He received a Bronze Star for his service during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Millersville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7294. A member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Millersville and St. Michaels Roman Catholic Church in Hudson, Fla., he served as an ordained deacon in the Harrisburg and Tampa dioceses. He was a member of the Lancaster chapter of the Serra International Society and the Hamilton Club. At one time, Bucher was scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 24 in Lancaster. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Carmelita Reilly Bucher. Surviving are two sisters, M. Bernice, Hudson, and Carmelita, wife of Jack Joyce, Boca Raton, Fla., and two brothers, Richard R., Lancaster, and T. Wallace, Gulfport, Miss. r New Era
