Bernie Harmsen, 89, 116 E. Jefferson St., Waupun, died Tuesday, Nov. 15, 1994, at Riverdale Manor Nursing Home in Markesan, where he has been a resident since June. Mr. Harmsen was born Dec. 24, 1904 in Waupun, the son of Ralph and Anna (Williamson) Harmsen. He married Carrie Mulder and the couple farmed in the town of Alto. Carrie died in 1968. He married Wilhelmina Frens March 21, 1969, and the couple has lived at their present address ever since. He was a member of the First Reformed Church in Waupun. Survivors include his wife, Wilhelmina, Waupun; two sons, Alvin (Dorie) Harmsen and Ron (Kathy) Harmsen, both of Waupun; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two stepdaughters, Elaine (Duane) Guenther, Beaver Dam, Wilma (Wayne) Van Buren, Waupun; four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by one sister and one granddaughter. Funeral services were held on Friday at 1 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Waupun with the Rev. Irvin Jungling officiating. Burial followed at Alto Cemetery in Alto. Visitation was held on Thursday from 5 to 8 pm at Werner-Harmsen Funeral Home in Waupun, and at the church on Friday from noon until the hour of service.
