ROANOKE RAPIDS — Mr. Thomas Elwood Medlin, 81, of 104 E. 4th St., Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009.
Mr. Medlin, a native of Halifax County, was the son of the late W.P. “Billy” and Lula Medlin. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, W.B. “Bernard” Medlin, Julian W. “Monk” Medlin and Clarence I. Medlin.
Mr. Medlin was a longtime member of First Baptist Church and was retired from Champion International Paper Mill after many years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Frances Norwood Medlin; two daughters, Donna M. Draper of Roanoke Rapids and Teresa M. Barrett and her husband, Mike, of Pleasant Garden; two sons, Lynn Medlin and his wife, Debbie, and Glenn Medlin and his wife, Deborah, both of Roanoke Rapids; 10 grandchildren, Jeremy Draper and his wife, Jill, Dionna Manning and her husband, Tom, Shannon Parrish and her husband, Josh, Shelly Toblin and her husband, Chad, Winborne Medlin, Kristi McConnell and her husband, Eddie, Lori Harrell and her husband, AJ, David Cooke, Blake Medlin and Ashley Medlin; 11 great-grand children; his sisters-in-law, Mildred Medlin and Tivi Medlin, both of Roanoke Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 25, at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids, which is handling the arrangements.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 26, at First Baptist Church, with his son-in-law, the Rev. Mike Barrett, and Dr. Julian Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.
