George's surname was actually Thomson which was eventually "Americanized" to Thompson. George was illiterate so he probably went
with the flow on the spelling.

He wasfrom Old Machar, Aberdeen, Scotland and had sisters named Agnes, Isabel,Mary and brothers Ninian and John. There was also a Ninion Thompson inAbbeville SC in 1850. He was born in Scotland abt 1790. I am wondering ifhe is related to my George.I am interested in the Kittrells and Thomsons in SC.
