ARTHUR R. MONTANYE, FORMER MAYFIELD SUPERVISOR WAS 74
Mayfield -- Arthur R. Montanye, 74, of 24 Second Ave., died yesterday at his home after being stricken.
Born in Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Montanye retired in 1980 after 24 years of public service in the town of Mayfield, including 10 years as town tax collector, two years as town clerk and 12 years as town supervisor. He was also employed for 20 years at the former Moderne Glove Co. in Gloversville.
He was a part member of the Mayfield Fire Department, a member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church, the Fishhouse Masonic Lodge, the Scottish Rite of Schenectady and the Adirondack Shrine Club, where he was an Adirondack Clown.
Mr. Montanye was also a member of the Mayfield Servicemen's Club, the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and the New York State Practice Board, for which he served as treasurer for many years.
He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and the recipient of a Purple Heart.
Mr. Montanye was married to Vera Manzer from 1937 until her death in 1957. Survivors include his wife, Nathalee Lowrey Montanye; a son, Norton A. Montanye of Mayfield; three daughters, Janetlee Judge of Stow, Mass., Lona D. Montanye of Bleecker, and Tonilee Putnam of Horseheads, Chemung County; a stepson, John C. Berry of Mayfield; a stepdaughter, Brenda Faye Tousdale of Perth; two brothers, Sanford Montanye of Mayfield and Eldon Montanye of Gloversville; three sisters, Edith M. Berman, Annamae Tomlinson, and Ruth M. Washburn, all of Gloversville; 13 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 tonight and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at Walrath and Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Mayfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in the Mayfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners' Crippled Children's Hospital, Springfield, Mass.
