NORTON A. MONTANYE, 56, WAS TOWN COUNCILMAN IN MAYFIELD
Mayfield -- Town councilman Norton A. Montanye, 56, of Knott Road, died Tuesday at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a long illness.
Born in Mayfield, Mr. Montanye was a 1957 graduate of Mayfield High School and a lifelong area resident.
He worked for the E.L. Heacock Glove Co. in Gloversville for 32 years and was the supervisor there until the company closed. He was employed by Sunderland Leather Co. in Gloversville for eight months. Mr. Montanye was also a business student at Fulton-Montgomery Community College until illness forced him to withdraw in January.
Mr. Montanye was serving his fourth term as Mayfield town councilman at the time of his death.
He was a member of the Mayfield Republican Club and the Fulton County Republican Club.
Mr. Montanye was a member of the Mayfield United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Lois Easton Montanye, whom he married July 14, 1979; three daughters, Deborah A. Dunn of Brunswick, Maine, and Marcia Hallenbeck and BethAnn Royal, both of Mayfield; three stepsons, Christopher M. Gifford of Gloversville, Michael M. Gifford of Oxford, Maine, and Patrick M. Gifford of Little Rock, Ark.; three sisters, Janetlee Judge of Stow, Mass, Lona D. Montanye of Hartwick, Mass., and Tonilee Putnam of Mayfield, and 11 grandchildren.
The service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Mayfield United Methodist Church.
Calling hours will be from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Walrath & Bushouer Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St., Gloversville.
Spring burial will be in Mayfield Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
