RAGAN FUNERAL RITES WILL BE
HELD TODAY
)Newspaper account of death)
Funeral services for Samuel C. Ragan,
75, well known Memphis cotton buyer,
were to be held at 3:30 p.m. today at the
Spencer-Sturia funeral home by the Rev.
T.K. Young. Burial was to be in
Elmwood Cemetery.
Mr. Ragan, who represented McFadden &
Oates Co., at Sikeston, Mo., died Tuesday
night at a Blytheville, Ark. hospital after
suffering a stroke of apoplexy a few hours
earlier as he was driving from Sikeston
to Memphis.
A native of Vicksburg, Miss., he came to
Memphis 15 years ago. He was a member
of Idlewild Presbyterian Church. He
leaves his widow Mrs. Helen C. Ragan, two
children, Mrs. Harry Weisiger and S.C.
Ragan. Jr., both of Memphis, a brother,
Willard Ragan, Pelahatchie, Miss., and a
sister, Mrs. Luella Smith, Hattiesburg, Miss.
NOTE: Mrs. Luella Smith is most likely Mary Eulalia Ragan Smith (married Tom Smith) that lived in Hattiesburg, MS.
On the back of a photograph of Peter Fleming Ragan (S.C.'s father) the name is spelled "Crittington." However, the granddaughter of S.C. Ragan, Carmel Ragan Barnett, confirms that the spelling is "Crittenden."
