Son of Henry Philip Powys, of Hardwick, Oxfordshire. Born March 1826. Served Punjab 1848 (medal and 2 bars).
Grave at Srinagar - "Edward Shawe Powys Esqr Captain H.M. 61st Regiment. Died 23rd September 1855. Aged 29 years 6 months. Deeply and sincerely regretted by his brother officers."
